Change Password
Prerequisites
Access Level:
User, Sub-admin, Admin, Super-admin
Permission Requirements
- None.
Access Your Password Change Menu
- Go to the Open User Menu icon in the top left corner.
- Select the Change Password option.
Changing your password generates a new private key. Download and use the new key file at your next login. Your old key file will no longer work.
Change Your Password
- Go to the Open User Menu icon in the top left corner.
- Select the Change Password option.
- In the pop-up, enter your current password.
- Enter and confirm your new password.
- Click Apply.
Even if you set the same password again, a new private key is generated. Your old key file will not work. If your deployment has split credentials enabled, the server-side encryption credentials are also regenerated, making the old key permanently invalid.
After changing your password, delete all copies of the old key file and replace them with the new key file downloaded at your next login.
If You Forgot Your Password
Changing a password requires the current one. If you no longer have it, you cannot do this yourself.
- Contact your administrator.
- Your administrator starts a key recovery. This is not something they can do alone: it takes one member from each escrow group. See Recover a User's Private Key.
- You receive a temporary password out of band.
- Log in with it, then set a new password from your profile.
- Download the new key file and store it securely.
This only works if your account was enrolled in key escrow. If it was not, a forgotten password means the account and all data encrypted under it are permanently unrecoverable. No administrator, and no one at Tera Insights, can reverse that.
Your previous key file cannot be used to log in after recovery. The new password generates a new key and invalidates the old one.
